In 1994 Paul Vleminckx and his wife planted the first grapevines on domain Meerdael in Oud-Heverlee. His goal was to produce the first Belgian sparkling wine, and with success. By now, Meerdael already owns 8 ha with the versatile Chardonnay grape on it. This grape is best suited to Belgium’s climate, geography, and soil and the perfect grape for sparkling wines.
