Ford GT40: Born from Rivalry, Forged in Victory!

The Ford GT40, an icon of motorsport, was born out of Henry Ford II's determination to beat Ferrari at Le Mans after a failed takeover of Enzo Ferrari's company. Produced between 1964 and 1969, the GT40 project began with a partnership between Ford and the British company Lola Cars. The team, led by American designer Harley Copp and including British engineer Roy Lunn, worked under the direction of John Wyer. Despite initial instability problems and early failures, the GT40, equipped with a powerful 7.0L engine by Carroll Shelby, scored its first major victory at Daytona in 1965 and later dominated Le Mans in 1966, establishing itself as a legendary race car.

The pinnacle of the GT40 was the #1075 chassis, which took an iconic victory in the 1969 Le Mans 24 Hours. Driven by Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver, the car achieved one of the closest finishes in Le Mans history, beating Hans Hermann's Porsche 908 by just 120 metres after 372 laps. Despite Porsche's dominance for much of the race, the GT40's strategic brilliance and resilience in overcoming mechanical problems led to a dramatic and memorable victory. This victory was all the more remarkable as the same chassis had won Le Mans the previous year.

This 1:18 scale model of the Ford GT40 captures the essence of the legendary chassis #1075, celebrating its historical significance and remarkable achievements. The model honours the thrilling 1969 Le Mans race, where Ickx's tactical acumen and the car's exceptional performance under pressure secured a memorable victory. It is a tribute to the GT40's enduring legacy, commemorating its role in one of the most exciting and competitive eras in motorsport history.
