Winter playground for the rich!

The ski season is upon us again and most of us have taken our skis out from under the dust to hit the high altitudes and experience the ultimate feeling of freedom by descending from the slopes. Every year, we all flock to the snow en masse including the richest of the rich. Royals, big stars and those of us who have really made it check into the most luxurious accommodations high in the mountains.

But what are THE destinations where the rich & famous glide across the snow?

See and be seen!

Sankt Moritz in Switzerland is not only the cradle of winter tourism and former host of two Winter Olympics, but also the place to be for the jet set. People of nobility and celebrities come here to get their share of winter sunshine and stroll the shopping streets adrift in fur coats to complement their wardrobes with the most exclusive brands. Here they attend top-class events including horse races and polo matches held on the frozen lake. There is no shortage of luxury lodgings but those who like to opt for tradition combined with special history should check in at the luxurious Klum hotel. This palace with five restaurants, three tennis courts and its own 9-hole golf course was founded in 1856 by Johannes Badrutt the founder of winter tourism.

Ski like a king!

Lech in Austria situated on the banks of the River Leche is a mundane winter playground for royals. The Dutch royal family has traditionally been sliding down the slopes here for years and we can't blame them. The beautiful snow-sure village has spectacular views and knows how to get the champagne flowing richly in the better après ski bars.

The royal family's regular ski stop is the luxurious five-star hotel Gasthof Post. Located in an old post office, this hotel has been run by the same family for years and belongs to the select circle of renowned "Relais & Château hotels". Here you will experience authentic Austrian charm in unprecedented luxury and that for just under a thousand euros per night.

Decadence at its finest!

Courchevel 1850 in France is the meeting place for the international jet set. After skiing, they unwind in front of the fireplace in a spacious chalet beautifully situated in a wooded area where the butler awaits them with a delicious alcoholic drink accompanied by a culinary masterpiece prepared by the chef on duty. The nouveau riche also get their money's worth here for the better night's work, as there are plenty of luxury bars and chic nightclubs where they can apres ski into the early hours.

One of the insanely expensive chalets in Courchevel is Le Chalet Ormello. In its 1000m2 area, a crew of no less than 12 staff walk around to relieve its guests in every conceivable area, ranging from chambermaids to private drivers. Price on request!
