Bodegas Carchelo Extenso Red Wine 2009 Magnum

In the 2009 vintage, David and his team found plots in some corners of their vineyards that were so exceptionally good that they decided to harvest them separately. The grapes were hand-selected and fermented in 1,800-litre cubic oak barrels using wild yeasts naturally found on the grape and in the cellar. This takes longer, but gives a deeper flavour, fuller colour and more aroma.

The next two years were spent in slow oxidative ageing in the same cubic barrels, 24 months in classic oak barrels (both new and used) and then 10 long years in the bottle before release. This is a flavour bomb with rich and complex aromas of ripe fruit, cloves, nuts, cedar, coffee, leather and tobacco. This wine showcases a captivating appearance with coppery tones and a lively ruby rim. Its nose is deep and elegant, featuring Mediterranean herbs, stone fruit, and nuanced hints of vanilla and cloves. On the palate, it exhibits remarkable liveliness and elegance, inviting exploration of its silky texture, balanced acidity, and tannins that create a rich sensory experience. With great aging potential of at least 15 years, it pairs beautifully with both traditional and contemporary dishes.

This wine is bottled in 530 magnums and sold exclusively in a gift box designed by Eduardo del Fraile. Extenso's unique packaging complements its exclusivity. The magnum bottle blends Bordeaux and Rhin elements, is opaque to protect the wine and is presented in a wooden box that opens to reveal its contents. Accompanied by four screen-printed glasses, the design underlines the refined nature of the wine and is a true testament to meticulous craftsmanship.
